Carmen de Vicente's Castanet
Ensemble
The practice of castanets during Carmen de
Vicente’s Spanish dance lessons was the seed to this ensemble. Carmen’s
expert knowledge and technique in playing the castanets have been evidenced
during numerous concerts she has performed in her extraordinary professional
career. Carmen’s passion for the instrument and the lack of an ensemble
emphasizing the castanets have moved Carmen to create this original ensemble,
the first of its kind in the world.
The ensemble, which consists of catanets
of various sizes, tones, and sound intensity, plays a variety of music
ranging from well known classical to a variety of rhythmic Spanish.
During its first public performance, the ensemble performed Johann Sebastian
Bach’s Brandenburgh Concert No. 3. We look forward to future performances
by Carmen de Vicente’s original ensemble.
